Description	:	Anna J Stahl Hofer was born March 2, 1899 in Hutchinson County on the family farm about 14 miles northwest of Freeman to Joshua and Barbara (Tschetter) Stahl and departed from this life Sunday evening September 20, 1967 at the Freeman Nursing Home where she had been cared for the last two months. She moved to the new family farm in Beadle County in 1901 with parents Joshua and Barbara (Tschetter) Stahl, three sisters and one brother. When she was a young child, Mother accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was baptized on August 27, 1917 by Rev. J.M. Tschetter and joined the Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church near Yale, South Dakota. She married Andrew A Hofer March 9, 1919. They farmed 36 years in the Carpenter, South Dakota area. When Dad's health failed they had a sale and moved to Huron in 1956. Mother lovingly cared for Dad until he passed away on January 2, 1957. Later she cared for her Aunt Susie. After she moved to Huron she joined the Bethesda Mennonite Brethren Church. Mother's education was very limited but she spent many hours reading the Bible, reading it through many times. Mother found much pleasure in home making, flowers, gardening, sewing and crocheting. Mother found joy in giving to people. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her much joy. She prayed for them on a regular basis. On May 7, 1977 she sold her home in Huron and moved to the Salem Home in Freeman. We are very grateful for the love and care she go at the Salem Home. She was very active in crafts at the Home until her health would not allow. She enjoyed the Christian love and regular Thursday night church services there. She adjusted very quickly to her new home, The first meal she had there they sang the song "God Will Take Care Of You" and she claimed that promise to the very end. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Andrew, one daughter in infancy, Rose Jean who was 1 1/2 years old, two sisters, Maria Stahl Walter and Justina Stahl Walter, and one brother, Paul J Stahl. Left to remember her many years of love and devotion are her children, Tobey and his wife Evelyn (Mass) Hofer, Alma Hofer and her husband Reuben Wollman of Freeman, and Leonard and his wife Lila (Gross) Hofer of Huron. Five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother Joshus B Stahl and his wife Anna of Yale, sister Lydia and her husband David Fast, sister Katharina (Katie) Stahl Tschetter, two sister-in-law Ella Hofer Kate Lanseidel all of Huron, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
