A few days after her birth, her mother Bertha Gail passed away from complications of the birth. Her Aunt and Uncle Alta and Tom Swan took over raising her, as Melvin had 4 young children to raise. They lived in Seymour Ia. When Bertha started school, they decided to shorten her name to Anna Lou and made that her legal name. She went to country school until 8th grade graduation. The same day Daddy Swan was killed in a coal mine accident. Mom Swan continued raising her with regular visits to Melvin and Flora Printy. She went to high school until she graduated in 1939. While in school, she met Roger DeVore and was introduced by Rogers's sister Ruth. On Sept. 28 1940, she and Roger were married in Browning, MO. Anna Lou taught country school the first year of their marriage and Roger and she farmed. When their first son was born, she discontinued teaching and was full time farm wife and mother. As time continued, son Gale was joined by Gary, Jean, Mary, Dean, and Rona. They lived at several area and different farms in the Seymour, IA and Princeton, MO through the years. They retired from farming in 1986. They sold everything and moved to Pomeroy, IA. Roger had to go to the Care Center in 1997, until his death on July 27, 1998. Anna Lou moved to Seymour, IA, later that year. Shortly after the move, she started dating Paul Swan and they were married Nov. 7 1999. They lived in Promise City, IA until Paul's death on Sept 28. 2001. In Nov. 2001, she moved back to Seymour. She spent several weeks in Oregon with her daughter Jean and Mary and families. She moved back to Pomeroy in 2003 until her passing at the Care Center on Feb 4 2014. She is survived by her children Gale (Sharon) DeVore of Topeka, KS, Gary (Sharon) DeVore of Pomeroy, IA, Jean (Gary) Smith, Coos Bay, OR, Mary (Andy) Michael of Coos Bay, OR, Dean (Ellen) DeVore Manson, IA. and Rona (Tim) Lubber of Hampton, IA. Also, grandchildren, oldest to youngest, Tom (Beth) Devour, Chris (Angela) Smith, Vicki (Tim) Woodard, Cindy (Todd) Griffin, Beth (Randy) Cumpton, Sheila (Kym) Coggins, Dan (Pam) DeVore, Renee (Sam) Bricker, Jason (Tina) Lubben Shaun Lubben and Megan Lubben. She has 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are step children, Dixie Egbert, Marvin and Ron Swan, and many nieces and nephews, and one half sister Berneice King. Her in-laws, Mildred DeVore, Beulah DeVore, Lawrence and Betty DeVore, Kenneth DeVore and Donna Caldwell. Those preceding her in death are her husbands, Roger DeVore and Paul Swan. Parents Melvin and Bertha Printy, step-mom Flora Printy, adoptive parents Alta and Tom Swan. Siblings, Alvin (Polly) Printy, Ruby Morris, Mervin Printy, Maxine (Burdete) Tharp, Charles (Alma) Printy. Half siblings Margaret "Peggy"Hartman, Lewis Printy, Emmet "Pat" Printy and Robert Printy. In-laws, Leslie DeVore, Keith DeVore Nyles DeVore, Ruth and Ernie Keller, Dorothy DeVore and Dwight Caldwell. Anna Lou was a wonderful wife and Mother and will be greatly missed. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at a young age. She was a Sunday School teacher at different churches throughout her life as a member of the Baptist, Assembly of God and Christian Churches.
