Parmenter, died Saturday afternoon at the home of her son, Lee L. Parmenter, in Gilman, following an illness of several weeks with liver trouble. Mrs. Parmenter was born Kell, June 20, 1850, in Rock Island County, Illinois, and was the daughter of George W. and Elizabeth Kell. She grew to womanhood there and was united in marriage there with Mr. Parmenter, February 11, 1869. Soon after their marriage they settled on a farm near Gilman. March 1, 1911, they moved to Gilman, where Mr. Parmenter died on January 4, 1918. Seven children were born to them, six of whom survive the mother. They are Mrs. Edward Green and George E. Parmenter, of Crookston, Minnesota; Charles K. Parmenter, Mrs. Alfred Lee, and Lee L. Parmenter, of Gilman; and Henry O. Parmenter of Des Moines. Five brothers and two sisters also survive. Mrs. Parmenter joined the Methodist Church when a girl, but later changed her membership to the United Brethren Church. Private funeral services at the grave in the United Brethren cemetery in charge of Rev. L.B. Foster.∼The Rock Island Argus, Rock Island, Illinois ~ 17 Mar 1920, Wed • Page 2 Mrs. Frank Westbay of Rock Island, has returned from Gilman, Iowa, where she attended the funeral of her sister, Mrs. Anna Louisa Parmenter, a former resident of Edgington Township. Mrs. Parmenter passed away on Saturday, March 6, at the home of her son, Lee, in Gilman, following an illness of several weeks' duration. She was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Kell. She was born in Edgington Township on June 20, 1850. She grew to womanhood in this locality, where she was united in marriage to Edward L. Parmenter on February 11, 1869. Mr. Parmenter died two years ago. After their marriage the couple removed to Gilman, which had since been the family home. The survivors are four sons, George Parmenter of Crookston, Minnesota, Charles and Lee of Gilman, and Harry of Marshalltown, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Green of Crookston, Minnesota, and Mrs. Alfred Hill of Gilman; eight grandchildren; five brothers, George Kell of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Charles of East Moline, Joseph of Davenport, James of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Edgar of Rock Island; two sisters Mrs. Newton [Elizabeth] Crawford of Prairie Point, Mississippi, and Mrs. Frank Westbay of Rock Island.
