Parmenter, an old and well-known resident of Jasper county, and a retired farmer of Gilman. Mr. Parmenter died at his home in Gilman of apoplexy, with which he was stricken on the night of December 27. He never regained consciousness following the seizure. Mr. Parmenter was 71 years old, and had been in failing health for two years. Mr. Parmenter was the second son of family of four sons of Lorenzo and Kezia [Robbins] Parmenter, and was born in Rock Island county, Illinois, Dec. 24, 1846. He removed to Jasper county in 1868, settling on a farm five miles west of Gilman, where he lived until his retirement in 1911. Since that time he has lived in Gilman. Mr. Parmenter's marriage took place at Edgington, Ill., Feb 11, 1869, when he claimed his bride Miss Anna Louise Kell. She and six of her seven children survive. The children are Mrs. E. E. Green and George E. Parmenter of Crookston, Minn.; Charles K. Parmenter, five miles west of Gilman; Harry O., who is with the One Hundred Sixty-eighth United States infantry, now in France; Lee, who lives on the old home place; and Mrs. Alfred Hill, of Gilman. Another daughter Cora J., died in 1880. Of eight grandchildren living one, Willis Parmenter, was reared by his grandparents and has made his home with them. Mr. Parmenter's only surviving brother W. E. Parmenter of Edgington, Ill. is very ill of cancer of the bowels. The other brothers who are dead were Elbert E. Parmenter of Rock Island, Ill., and George D. Parmenter, of Grinnell. At the age of 19 Mr. Parmenter was converted and became united with the United Brethern faith. In 1898 he was instrumental in the building of the Union Chapel church, which occupies a site on his farm, and has been a member of this church ever since. Funeral services will be held Monday from the church of which he was a member, the funeral party leaving Gilman at 10 o'clock. Rev. E.A. Hersch, of Newburg will have charge of the services, and burial will be in the Hickory Grove cemetery. Added 03 Nov 2017
