Description	:	Anna Marie "Annie" Hoegh was the daughter of Jorgen P. Hoegh and his wife Anna Katrine Petersen, born in 1851. In the 20 year period from 1864 to 1885, Denmark was invaded by the German Army. South Jutland, Denmark, was lost to Germany in 1863-64. The home of the Hoegh family was in the village of Sjallerup in Egensoyn (sp), on the Island of ALS. Annie immigrated to the USA in 1868 with her brother Niels and sister Mette Marie, and settled in Davenport. Iowa. Here, the sisters found employment as maids serving wealthy families and Niels cleaned cellars. Then Niels worked in silver mines in the west. When he returned to Iowa, he was connected with the railroad and settled at Brayton in Audubon County. In 1872, Annie married Jens Peder Christofferson in Davenport, Iowa. Jens imigratated in 1870. The newlyweds settled in Oakfield Township, near Brayton in Audubon County, Iowa. Annie and Jens were the parents of 4 children: 1. Jens Christofferson 1873-1881, abt 8 years old, buried in OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP Cemetery EAST of Brayton, Iowa (1880 Census); 2. Minnie, born 1875, married Asmus Hansen. They moved to Oregon and are buried there; 3. Jens N. Christofferson, born 1881, who married Anna Elsahe Walter and took over the home place; #4. Rose Christofferson, born June 12 1886, Atlantic, IA, who married 1st Frank Aldrich and 2nd married Charles Nelson. Rose and her second husband moved to California and are buried there. Annie and Jens sent for more family members to come over. Two nephews, brothers Christoffer Hansen, 19, and Hans Hansen, 14, came in 1891, lived with Jens and Annie, and worked as indentured servants for 6 years, as was the custom. Jens raised both livestock and crops and farmed with horses, breaking the virgin prairie. Annie and Jens Peder Christofferson and many family members are buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton.
