He was christened 13 January 1839, Gerlev Parish. He was vaccinated for smallpox 29 June 1839, recorded at Gerlev parish. The confirmation data lists Jens Peter Christoffersen's parents as "by dead farmer Christoffer Jensen, Inger Peterdatter now married to farmer Hans Svendsen of Gerlev." Siblings: Jens P. had a brother Niels C. Christofferson, born in Denmark 1848, who immigrated to the USA and settled in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This brother Niels was named after a brother Niels who lived only 3 months and 2 weeks (24 Dec 1846-6 Apr 1847). He also had three sisters; Dorthea Christoffersdatter (b. 1845, Gerlev, Denmark) who married Peder Hansen; Ane Dorthea Christoffersdatter (b.1836, Gerlev) who married Peder Hansen's brother Lars; and Karen Christoffersen (b. 25 April 1842, christened and died 29 May 1842 at home). After the death of his father Christoffer Jensen in February 1850, another brother was born in June, Peter Christofferson. (This brother , at age about 23, did not want to serve in the Danish military. So he boarded a ship and jumped into the harbor in New York and eventually settled in Michigan and raised a large family). Jens P. was a farmer and immigrated to the United States in 1868, like so many others to avoid military duty and to make a better life for himself due to the poor economy in Denmark. He married Anna "Annie" Marie Hoegh in Davenport, Iowa . They settled in Oakfield Township, Audubon County, Iowa in 1872. They were the parents of 4 children: 1. Jens Christofersen 1873-1881, buried in OAKFIELD Cemetery EAST of Brayton, IA. (1880 Census). 2. Minnie, b. 1875, married Asmus Hansen, moved to Oregon and are buried there. 3. Jens N. Christofferson, born 1881 who married Anna Elsahe Walter and eventually farmed the "home place"; 4. Rose Emelia Christofferson, b. June 12 1886, Atlantic, IA, married Franck P. Aldrich. They had two children, Roy & Mildred, also Harry S. Aldrich, brother of Frank, lived with them in Atlantic, IA (1920 Census). They migrated to California & Frank died. Rose remarried to Charles Nelson. In 1930 Census, Rialto, CA they are listed with their children Roy, Mildred, and Jane. Rose is buried in California. Jens P. Christofferson sent for two of his nephews in Denmark, Dorothea Christoffersdatter Hansen's sons. Christoffer Hansen, age 19, and his brother Hans L. Hansen, age 14, sailed in March 1891 on the ship "Copenhagen" from Copenhagen, Denmark, to New York City. They came by train to Atlantic, Iowa and then to their uncle's place in Oakfield Township to work for him for about 6 years. Jens P. had mental problems later in life and his wife Annie lost her life due to those problems. Jens P. spent time in the mental hospital in Clarinda. Details can be found in the Atlantic New-Telegraph newspaper at the time of Annie's death (1911). Jens P. & Annie, and other descendants are buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton, about one mile southeast of the "home place".
