Description	:	Mrs. Henry J. Scholten, nee Anna Ketel, was born on May 12, 1880 in the Alton-Orange City vicinity where she was since resided. She attended the Alton Public School but before entering High School her mother died and she remained at home to assist with the duties int eh home and with the care of an infant sister. Julia who died in... Read More	Mrs. Henry J. Scholten, nee Anna Ketel, was born on May 12, 1880 in the Alton-Orange City vicinity where she was since resided. She attended the Alton Public School but before entering High School her mother died and she remained at home to assist with the duties int eh home and with the care of an infant sister. On July 22, 1898, she was united in marriage to Henry John Scholten and to this union nine children were born. They are, in the order of their ages: Gerrit (residing in Grand Rapids, Mich.) Julia who died in infancy, Julia (Mrs. Anthony Aberson residing on the old farm place), Anna Marie (who died at the age of 1 1/2 years), Lawrence, Marie, Leona, Elroy, and Marlys all at home. Mrs. Scholten was taken to Rochester on August 11 and on the 16th she submitted to an operation. Her little daughter Leona also entered the Mayo Clinic and became a medical patient. Both mother and daughter were treated at St. Mary's Hospital and both were recovering nicely until on September 1 when relatives were summoned to her bedside and after a valiant fight for her ultimate recovery she passed away on September 7. Her eldest sister, Mrs. John Roghair, residing in Orange City was with her almost constantly. Besides this sister she leaves another sister, Mrs. Gerrit Roghair, residing here and four brothers, Henry and Lewis Ketel at Bigelow, Minn., Nick Ketel residing at Worthington, Minn., and John Ketel also of the Bigelow vicinity, who with the sorrowing husband and children are mourning the passing of a loving sister and a Christian mother: Besides these a host of friends will greatly miss her. Deceased was a member of the Reformed Church and of its Ladies' Aid Society and attended these meetings regularly. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the house and at 1:30 at the Reformed Church. Rev. J. Enwema local pastor having charge of the services. Interment was made in Nassau Township Cemetery. Alton Democrat - 12 September 1930
