Description	:	Leona H. Scholten, an invalid for the past sixteen years, passed on at the home of her sister, Mrs. Anthony Aberson, Thursday, June 22nd. Stricken with arthritis while a young girl, she had been bedfast for eight years and had reached the age of 29 years at the time of her passing. She was born on the Scholten farm June 16, 1915, and after the death of her mother in 1930 lived for six months with her aunt, Mrs. Gerrit Reinders at Orange City, and since then has lived with her sister, Mrs. Anthony Aberson, on the home farm, receiving... Read More	Leona H. Scholten, an invalid for the past sixteen years, passed on at the home of her sister, Mrs. Anthony Aberson, Thursday, June 22nd. Stricken with arthritis while a young girl, she had been bedfast for eight years and had reached the age of 29 years at the time of her passing. She was born on the Scholten farm June 16, 1915, and after the death of her mother in 1930 lived for six months with her aunt, Mrs. Gerrit Reinders at Orange City, and since then has lived with her sister, Mrs. Anthony Aberson, on the home farm, receiving every loving attention. She passed on at the De Bey Hospital where she was a patient for 4 weeks. Surviving are six brothers and sisters: Gerrit Scholten, Mrs. A. Aberson of Alton; Lawrence Berkenpas, Alton; PFC Elroy in New Guinea, Marlys, Sioux City. She was a member of the local First Ref. church and was loved by many friends for her beautiful character. Her patience and hopefulness in the face of prolonged suffering were considered remarkable. Many relatives and friends attended the services held Monday at the Aberson home and Reformed church with Rev. Vander Schaaf officiating. Among those from a distance at the services were Mrs. Emma Phelps of Sioux City, Leona's "pen pal" and Mr. and Mrs. Lou Ketel, Mr. and Mrs. John Ketel and two daughters, Mrs. Henry Ketel, Mr. and Mrs. John Teerink, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Reitsma, all of Bigelow, and many from Boyden, Sheldon and neighboring towns.
