Anna Mariawas born February 08, 1916, in Brisbane, North Dakota, the daughter of Eugene and Josephine (Vetter) Riehl. She attended school in Brisbane and Raleigh, North Dakota, and Duluth, Minnesota. Anna married Bernard Ternes in 1935 at the Bishop's Chapel in Bismarck. They lived in Raleigh most of their married lives and moved to Bismarck in 1975. Anna dedicated herself to raising and educating her children. She loved needlework, reading, writing, spending time at the senior center and with family and friends. She was proud of her German heritage and enjoyed studying and discussing her genealogy. Her grandparents all came from the Russian steppes. Her paternal grandparents were Karl and Dorothea (Steiert) Riehl who emigrated from Krasna, Bessarabia, Russia. Her maternal grandparents were Joann and Anna Maria (Schumacher) Vetter. Joann was from Selz, Russia, and Anna Maria was from Strasburg, Russia, both villages in the Kurtchurgan District. Her distant ancestors who immigrated to Russia around 1800 were primarily from the Elsass Region of Germany now the Alsace France. Anna is survived by her husband, Bernard "Ben," Bismarck; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Delores and Miles Utter, Bismarck, Claudia and Richard Noble, Gig Harbor, Washington, Elaine and Kay Kittler, Redmond, Washington, Donna and Eugene Wanner, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Addie Ternes, Rosville, Minnesota; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Leo and Peggy (Mahrer) Ternes, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Clarence and Bonnie (Siegfried) Ternes, Emmett, Idaho, Harold and Karen (Bullinger) Ternes, Meredian, Idaho, and Steve Ternes, Aurora, Colorado; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. She is also survvied by one sister, Frances Kopp, Raleigh. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Anita; and one sister, Lagotta Tischmack.
