ANNA RUDEN IS CLAIMED BY DEATH Well Known Resident of County Passes Away at Home of Daughter Sunday. Death claimed another well known resident of this end of the county - a woman who had lived here for 28 years and who was well beloved by a very large circle of friends - in the person of Mrs. Anna Ruden, who passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Theisen, two miles northeast of LeMars. Her death was due to complications arising after she suffered a paralytic stroke five weeks ago. Mrs. Ruden was 74 years old. Surviving are two sons and three daughters. Funeral services were held in Oyens yesterday morning. Mts. Ruden had enjoyed excellent health throughout her life, and was seldom heard to complain of sickness. She was possessed of a robust constitution and for a person of her advanced age was uncommonly active until her sudden ailment overtook her late in June. On June 20 she suffered a stroke of paralysis. She made partial recovery and for a time the relatives felt assured that she would be blessed with a return to normal health, but about 10 days ago she was taken down with an attack of pneumonia and her strength declined rapidly. The end came Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the patient having been privileged to the comfort and spiritual strength afforded her by administration of the last sacred rites of the Catholic church. Anna Ruden, before her marriage Anna Miller, was born in the village of Niederanven, Grand Duchy of Luxemburg [sic], on December 16, 1855, daughter of Mathew and Mary Miller. At the age of 18 years she came to the United States with her parents and the family settled at Cascade, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Jacob Ruden, in 1875 in the city of Dubuque. The couple resided in Cascade for two more years and then settled on a farm near Earling, Shelby county. In 1902 they moved to Plymouth county, buying a fine farm two miles northeast of Oyens, where they lived and prospered for 15 years. Mr. and Mrs. Ruden retired in 1916, moving to Oyens, but the peaceful days of retirement and well-earned rest were cut short for the husband, who passed away a year later. The Ruden farm is now being tenanted by the deceased's son, Joseph Ruden. The deceased was a member of the Catholic church throughout her life, and her strict adherance [sic] to the principles of this faith made her a staunch member of St. Catherine's congregation at Oyens. In her home life she was a loving and exemplary wife and mother, and her many admirable qualities and charitable inclinations won her friends wherever she resided and wherever she moved in social circles. She enjoyed a very wide acquaintance throughout this part of the county and her presence among this circle will be sadly missed. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of their many friends, To the union of Anna Miller and Jacob Ruden seven children were born, two of them passing away in infancy. The surviving children are: Nicholas Ruden, Remsen; Mrs. N. H. Majeres, LeMars; Mrs. Charles Masuen, Oyens; Joseph Ruden, Oyens, and Mrs. John Theisen, LeMars. There are 36 grandchildren. There are also two sisters and two brothers, all living in the vicinity of Earling. Funeral services were held yesterday morning in St. Catherine's church, Oyens, with the Rev. H. Rolfes singing the requiem mass. The unusually large attendance was a splendid testimonial of the esteem and love in which this lovable aged woman had been held in this vicinity for so many years. The pall bearers were six grandsons of the deceased, namely: John and Frank Ruden, Arthur and Anthony Majeres, and Lawrence and Aloysius Masuen. Flowers were carried by Misses Theresitia [sic] Theisen, Dolores Masuen and Armella Ruden, granddaughters of the deceased. Altar boys during the funeral mass were the following grandsons: Silvus, Harold and Walter Ruden, and Richard and Ervin Relatives from other points here for the last sad rites, are: Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Miller and daughter Rose, Mr. and Mrs. Ulrich Albers, C. B. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Kenkel, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Kenkel and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Jacoby, Earling, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Math Finken and Mrs. Peter Jacoby, Defiance, Iowa; Mrs. John Petsche, Harlan, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ruden, Mrs. Joe Jarding, Nick Schmidt, Wm. Ruden, Kathryn Ruden, Henry Ruden, Peter Jarding and Dora and Lois Jarding, Emery, S. D.; Mrs. John Heiberger, Mrs. Otto Leitcheiser, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weber, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weber, Bernard Weber and Leo Weber, Bridgewater, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Weber, Salem, S. D.; Mrs. George Pfeller, and Mr. and Mrs. John J.
