Read More	Published in Remsen Bell-Enterprise (June 28, 1917): DEATH OF JACOB RUDEN Death Came Saturday After Long Illness - Was One of County's Prominent Men Jacob Ruden, a prominent Plymouth county resident, passed away at his home in Oyens last Saturday morning, June 23, at 4:20 o'clock, after an illness of about one year. His death was due to aenemia [sic], from which he suffered for a long time. Mr. Ruden was sixty-seven [sic] years of age. He is survived by his wife, five children, a brother and a sister. Jacob Ruden was born on October 14, 1850, in the village of Road [sic], Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and came with his parents to the United States at the age of three years. The family settled on a farm in Jackson county and remained there several years, after which they moved to a farm near Holy Cross. On February 29, 1876, Mr. Ruden was united in marriage to Annie Miller, at Dubuque, Iowa, and the couple then settled on a farm near Cascade, Iowa, where they remained for two years. From Cascade they moved to Early, Iowa, settling on a farm, and remained there for twenty-four years. In 1902 they came to Plymouth county and purchased a farm northeast of Oyens, making their home there until last October, when they moved to Oyens. In April, 1916, Mr. Ruden met with an accident in which his hip was sprained, and ever since then he began to fail in health. He suffered with a complication of diseases, but the chief ailment was aenemia [sic]. For the past nine months he was confined to his bed constantly. The deceased is survived by his widow and the following children: Nicholas J. Ruden of Remsen; Elizabeth, now Mrs. Nicholas Majeres of Remsen; Lena, now Mrs. Charles Masuen of Oyens; Joseph, of Remsen; and Annie, who still resides with her mother in Oyens. Two children died in infancy. Besides the immediate family the deceased is survived by one brother, Nicholas, of Holy Cross, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Duster, of Bridgewater, S.D. There are also seventeen grand-children. The funeral was held Tuesday morning and was very largely attended. Services were held in St. Catherine's church, Oyens, at ten o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. Father Rolfes. Jacob Ruden was well known in this section of the country and was regarded very highly by everyone with whom he ever came in contact. His death is sincerely regretted by his many acquaintances, and his departure is regarded as a real loss.
