DAVE MINGUS DIED AT HOME HERE MONDAY Mrs. Dave Mingus passed away suddenly at her home on Highway No. 71. just north of Spirit Lake, Monday evening at 5 o'clock. She had been in ailing health with heart trouble for a number of years but her death came as a great shock to her husband and children. At the time of her death she was alone in her home. Her son, Stanley Mingus of Chicago, who came Saturday for a visit after working in Colorado, had gone down to the lake, and had left his mother sitting in a chair by the window where she might look out onto the lake. When he returned, he found she had passed away peacefully during his short absence. Her husband was in Des Moines, where he has been working on a defense project. Funeral services were conducted this Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Baptist church in Spirit Lake, with the Rev. Sawyer, pastor of the Christian church of Estherville officiating. Burial is being made at Lakeview cemetery. Maud Patch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adelbert Patch was born in Whiteside county, ILL., Sept. 7, 1873, and moved with her parents to Harlan, Iowa, in 1880, later locating in Coon Rapids where in 1891 she married David Mingus. They located in Spirit Lake in 1932. For the last several years they have occupied their own home a short distance north of the Lake Street bridge. Four children were born to the union, and with the husband, mourn the departure of a devoted mother. The children are Mrs. Bessie Hall of Spirit Lake, Stanley Mingus of Chicago, Freeman of Coon Rapids, and Mrs. Deloris Nelson of Des Moines. A brother, Frank Patch of Coon Rapids and five grandchildren also survive. Mr. and Mrs. Mingus celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary December 6, 1941. Mrs. Mingus was a member of the Christian church of Coon Rapids. Mr. Mingus, who has been with his daughter, Mrs. Nelson in Des Moines while working on the defense project plans to return there at least for the present. *Obituary is published in the Spirit Lake Beacon, Aug. 27, 1942. -------- Headstone picture requested by: Gina --------
