Mrs. Anna Fowler one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of this section, died last evening at 4:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Allison, West Sixth street. Though she bore her sufferings with true Christian fortitude, the strain was too great for her frail body, and she lost consciousness Sunday afternoon, never reviving. Mrs. Anna Fowler was born June 30, 1822, at Carrollton, Ohio, and had she lived until her next birthday would have been 86 years of age. She was the daughter of John Pugh, at one time prominent citizen of Hancock county, West Virginia, both father and mother having died many years ago. When yet a young girl Mrs. Fowler removed with her father to a farm in West Virginia only a few miles from the Ohio river near Fairview. She was married to William Baker Fowler November 14, 1838, and for a number of years resided on the Fowler homestead in Hancock county. Of this union six children were born, the following of whom are still living; J. Q. A. Fowler, of Steubenville, R. Patterson Fowler, of Barberton; W. Smith Fowler, and Sarah Elizabeth Allison, of this city. The family removed to East Liverpool in 1866, locating at 226 Sixth street. At that early date few other buildings marked the hill section of East Liverpool, and the Fowler home was a landmark. Mr. Fowler embarked in the grocery business in a portion of the same building, and for 27 years occupied his time in ministering to the needs of the public in that time. He died February, 1898, after attaining his 83d year. Mrs. Fowler remained at the old home until 1901 when she went to the home of her only daughter, in sight of her former residence, where the remainder of her life was spent. Mrs. Anna Fowler united with the Presbyterian church when a young girl and her long life has been one of usefulness and well worthy of emulation. When she came to East Liverpool the church here was small and the congregation few in numbers. Being in vigorous health at the time she entered upon an active life in the Christian work, being associated with and a coworker of the late Mrs. Curry, founder of the West End chapel. She never last interest in the movement and even after she was unable to attend services regularly was a liberal and frequent contributor to church and mission causes. Mrs. Fowler had eleven grand children and sixteen great - grandchildren. At the death of her mother, when she was but two years of age, Mrs. Fowler brought one of her grandchildren, Mrs. Cris McConnell, to her own home, where she remained until her marriage in 1892, being cared for as a daughter. She also raised Mrs. Martha Smith, who has been a resident of this city for many years. Funeral services will be conducted from the Allison home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Rev. Dr. E. M. McMillian, pastor of the First Presbyterian church will officiate, and will be assisted by Dr. J. C. Taggart of the First United Presbyterian church. Interment will be made in Riverview cemetery. The remains may be viewed this evening from 8 until 10 o'clock. OBITUARY: Unknown newspaper, Wednesday, 26 Sep 1906 In the death of Mrs. Anna Fowler, relict of the late W. B. Fowler, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Allison, in West Sixth street, at 4:30 p.m. yesterday. East Liverpool loses another pioneer christian woman--one whose life was devoted to the church and to charity. Mrs. Fowler was 82 years old. Her death was due the infirmities of old age. She was sick three weeks and unconscious for 58 hours before her death. Mrs. Fowler was born at Carrollton, O. June 30,1822. Her mother died when she was an infant, and her father the late John Pugh, died several years ago. Her husband, W. B. Fowler conducted a grocery store for 27 years at No. 226 Sixth street. He died eight years ago. The deceased united with the First Presbyterian church when she was a child and until she became enfeebled by old age was one of the most active members. Besides Mrs. Peter Allison, the following children survive: Smith Fowler, the well known business man and capitalist, of this city; Patterson Fowler, Barbertown, and J.Q.A. Fowler of Steubenville. Mrs. Martha J. Smith and Mrs Chris McConnell, both of this city, are foster children of the deceased. All were at her bedside during her illness and when she died. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Allison residence, the Rev. Dr. E.M. McMillen officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Dr. T.W. Lane and the Rev. Dr. Taggart. Interment will be at Riverview. The body will lie in state from 8 until 10 o'clock this evening that the friends may view it.
