Description	:	Anna Van Haaften Sedrel was born on November 21, 1909 on a farm northeast of Leighton. She was the third of three children that were born to William and Minnie DeBruin Van Haaften and had an older brother and sister, Arie and Wilma Van Haaften. Anna attended and graduated from the Black Oak No. 6 Country Grade School near Leighton. She continued to reside with her parents on the farm until her father, William, passed away at an early age. Read More	Anna Van Haaften Sedrel was born on November 21, 1909 on a farm northeast of Leighton. She was the third of three children that were born to William and Minnie DeBruin Van Haaften and had an older brother and sister, Arie and Wilma Van Haaften. Anna attended and graduated from the Black Oak No. 6 Country Grade School near Leighton. She continued to reside with her parents on the farm until her father, William, passed away at an early age. Following his death, she and her mother, Minnie, moved to a new house that was built for them in Leighton. Anna and her mother then served as custodians at the Ebenezer Reformed Church. On January 16, 1936 she was united in marriage with Henry Sedrel at the Ebenezer Reformed Church and to this union two daughters were born. Carol Ann and Connie Elaine. Anna and Henry lived on his parents, Ben and Charlotte Dykstra Sedrel, farm near Tracy for one year and then moved into her mother's home in Leighton. They spent the reminder of their married life in this home. In 1943 he began his own hatchery business, known as Sedrel Hatchery, which he and Anna operated until 1970. Henry passed away on December 19, 1994 at the age of 83 years. Following his death Anna lived with her daughter, Carol and her husband, Frank Terpstra Jr., in Leighton. In June of 1997 she was admitted to the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella and was cared for there in the Long Term Care Unit the remainder of her life. She passed away late Friday afternoon, March 14. She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands; Carol and Frank Terpstra of Leighton, and Connie and Robert Brouwer of Pella, five gradnchildren and six great- grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Henry and her parents, William and Minnie Van Haaften, her brother, Arie Van Haaften and his wife, Mabel and her sister, Wilma and her husband, Gerrit Hasselman.
