But marking her one hundredth birthday without fanfare is characteristic of Mrs. Bettie Edmonston, Poolesville, a gracious and gentle lady who has gone through much of her life helping others and not thinking of herself. Born in Poolesville March 26, 1870, she is the daughter of the late John Henry and Sallie White Williams. She is the last survivor of five sisters and five brothers. In 1900 she married W. E. Edmonston of Baltimore and remembers clearly their honeymoon trip to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Spending her married life in Baltimore, she returned to Poolesville in 1915 following the death of her husband. "Aunt Bettie," as she is known far and wide, has been an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Poolesville since childhood. She was a volunteer worker for the Red Cross and a member of the Monocacy Homemakers' Club for many years. Her main interest in life was doing for other people, and is best described by a great-niece, who said, "Aunt Bettie is loved by all who know her because she does not complain; she sees the best in people; she loves all her friends and finds some good in us, knows our interests and finds a point of contact with each of us. She appreciates every little thing anyone does for her and has never lost touch with her church." She has a sense of humor and enjoyment of fun which is shared with her innumerable nieces and nephews, including greats and great-greats, who travel for miles to visit her frequently. She is interested in every little new baby arriving in the family. Since Mrs. Edmonston's vision has lessened in late years she is now a resident of the Matthews Nursing Home in Poolesville. A few close friends and family members plan to help her observe her natal day. Obituary The Frederick Post - March 8, 1976 Funeral services for Miss Ann Elizabeth Edmonston, Poolesville, who died Monday, March 1, at Vindabona Nursing Center, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 6, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Poolesville. The Rev. Ronald N. Hiester, officiated. Pallbearers were Gustavus R. Gray, Jr., Dr. Harry W. Gray, William E. Williams Jr., Riggs Darby, John A. Jones Jr., and Lawrence Jones. Interment was in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville. Funeral arrangements were made by Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville.
