Description	:	Ane Margrethe was born to Arendt Nielsen Smed (Smidt) and wife Maria Kristine Nielsdatter on October 30, 1833 in Bastrup, Vamdrup Sogn, Ribe, Denmark. She received the gift of God’s saving grace through Holy Baptism on November 224, 1833 at Vamdrup Sogn. She studied the scripture and Martin Luther’s Catechism and affirmed her Christian faith at Vamdrup Sogn. On December 1855, she was united in marriage to Jens Nielsen at Vandrup. They made their home at Holt in Vamdrup Sogn and were blessed with four daughters. Her husband died January 23, 1888. In 1898, her daughter Ane Laurine wife of Iver Kristian Jensen came from Minnesota, USA to accompany her mother to live with her. Ane registered to leave Denmark in Copenhagen on February 22, 1898 and they arrived in New York Harbor on March 14, 1898. As Ellis Island wasn’t opened yet, she was process through Castle Garden (Immigration Center). They proceeded to her daughter’s home in Helen Township, McLeod County, Minnesota near Glencoe. Ane made her home here with the family until 1905 when they moved to Denmark Township in Ward County, North Dakota to homestead. Ane died at her daughter’s home in Denmark Township on March 22, 1916. Funeral was held on March 25th in the Jensen home and also at the Trinity Danish Lutheran Church with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Submitted by John Mogren
