Meets Death at Railroad Crossing...Mrs. William Golden and Miss Cozette Golden Victims of Accident A pall of gloom was cast over our city and county last Friday evening, April 13, when word was received here that Mrs. William Golden and her sister-in-law, Miss Cozette Golden were instantly killed when their automobile was hit by a C. & O. passenger train at the Peoria crossing, about 12 miles east of here [Brookville, Indiana]. The fatal accident occurred about 4 o'clock, when the two women were returning from a call at the home of Frank Heard, who lives a short distance from Peoria. At the first impact of the collision, the door of the automobile on Mrs. Golden's side was thrown open and she was hurried to the track and her body was rolled and tumbled beneath the train for several hundred feet before the train was brought to a stop. Almost every bone in her body was broken and she was cut and mangled beyond recognition. Miss Golden was not thrown from the auto and her body was rescued from the wreckage of the machine. Her neck was broken and she received several cuts about the head and face. Members of the train crew and several bystanders removed the bodies to Peoria station and Coroner Smith was summoned, who ordered them removed to this city [Brookville]. They were brought to the Moster Undertaking Parlors and prepared for burial. The crossing at Peoria is a very dangerous one, as there are two tracks, one on an elevation several feet above the other. The driver of any vehicle has difficulty in seeing trains approaching and Mrs. Golden who was at the wheel, had crossed one track and apparently did not see the on-rushing train in time to stop, if she saw it at all. Mrs. William Golden, formerly Miss Annella Federman, a bride of about six months, and Miss Cozette Golden, were both well and favorably known in and around Brookville, each being prominent in the club, social and church life of the community. Mrs. Golden is survived by her husband, mother, Mrs. L. H. Federman, and three brothers, Richard and Charles of Indianapolis, and William of Seymour. Miss Golden is survived by two brothers, William and Harry, and three sisters, Mrs. Clifford Miles and Mrs. Albert Koepple of this county, and Mrs. George McNutt of Indianapolis. Double funeral services were held at the Golden residence, about 4 miles east of Brookville, Monday afternoon, attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. The remains of Mrs. Golden were interred at Maple Grove Cemetery and those of Miss Golden in Big Cedar Cemetery.
