Born in New Ross, she was a daughter of the late Lincoln and Catherine (Fancy) Meister. She and her husband owned and operated Barkhouse's General Store, New Ross for several years and were widely known throughout the Valley and South Shore area for the active role they played in the lumber and apple barrel industries. She was a member of New Ross Baptist Church, taking an active part in church and community affairs; member of New Ross Garden Club and a staunch Conservative. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Sargent, Belmont, Mass.; two sons, Philip, Ronald, both of New Ross; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Harris, Worcester, Mass.; Mrs. Edna Lavers, Patterson, N.J.; half-brother, Cedric Meister, New Ross; three half-sisters, Mrs. Leitha Sanders, Mrs. Bernice Hiltz, both of New Ross; Mrs. Kathleen Dakin, New Minas; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred S.; three brothers, Clifford, Goodwin, Murray; sister, Marguerite Hunt; three half-brothers, Frederick, Charles, Otis. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, New Ross. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in New Ross Baptist Church, Rev. Gordon Janes officiating. Burial will be in New Ross Baptist Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to New Ross Baptist Church, New Ross Garden Club or any charity.
