GIBSON Annie Missouri Crabbs, daughter of Joshua and Thirza Crabbs, was born at Hagerstown, Maryland, March 16, 1853, and passed from this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charity Bielefeldt, at Roland, Iowa, December 25, 1936, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 9 days. GIBSON Annie Missouri Crabbs, daughter of Joshua and Thirza Crabbs, was born at Hagerstown, Maryland, March 16, 1853, and passed from this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charity Bielefeldt, at Roland, Iowa, December 25, 1936, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 9 days. The Crabbs family were in the south but were not in favor of slavery. Some of the memories of the days of the Civil War were vivid in Mrs. Gibson's mind. At the time of the outbreak of the war the family was living on property belonging to General Lee, the Arlington estate, now the site of the Arlington Cemetery. Her father was the miller on this estate. Mrs. Gibson remembered the sound of the first guns of the battle of Bull Run, and many experiences with the soldiers from those days. Her father was taken prisoner by the Rebel army because of some cadet uniforms found in his home, and during his imprisonment met exposure which he could not endure, not being a strong man, and so his death followed. The three older children, including Mrs. Gibson, went to relatives near Harrisburg, Penna., to live. Late in the '60s she came to Carroll county, Iowa, settling near Carrollton. In 1869, she was united in marriage to George N. Young. To this union three children were born. One died in infancy and the surviving are A. J. Young of Ames and Mrs. Maud Sigler of Racine, Wisconsin. Mr. Young died in the year 1872. In 1875, she was united in marriage to Cyrus C. Gibson. To this union four children were born. Two of these are deceased, one in infancy and one at the age of 17 years. The surviving are Mrs. Irene Bruce of Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Charity Bielefeldt of Roland, Iowa. In 1875 the family moved to a farm east of Scranton where they resided about six years, when they returned to Carrollton and two years later to Dedham, Iowa. Then about 1917 they came back to Scranton, which has since been her home. In 1924 Mr. Gibson passed to the life beyond. Mrs. Gibson continued to live in Scranton until 1935 when she went to make her home with her daughter at Roland, where the end came. Mrs. Gibson was active in church and Sunday school work from young womanhood until age and failing health made it impossible. The children remember both their parents as devoted and treasure the ideals and standards they inherited from them. She leaves to mourn her passing, the three daughters and one son mentioned above, one step-daughter, thirty grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. There is also one sister surviving, Mrs. Emma C. Taylor, of Coon Rapids, besides other relatives. Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Episcopal church at Scranton by the Rev. R.J. Arms, assisted by the Rev. F.A. Smith of Woodbine, Iowa. Music was furnished by Mrs. R.E. Parry and Mrs. John Black, with Miss Lucile Rutan accompanying them on the piano. Six of the grandchildren served as pallbearers and interment was in the Scranton cemetery. .
