Description	:	Cyrus C Gibson was born in Hamilton county, IN, July 4, 1841 and died at his home in Scranton, IA April 15, 1924, at the age of eighty-two years, nine months and eleven days. He came to IA with his parents and settled in Greene county in 1853. He was one of a family of ten children, six boys and four girls. One brother, Jesse C, of Dodge Center, MN and one sister, Matilda Kennett, of Scranton, survive him. Read More	Cyrus C Gibson was born in Hamilton county, IN, July 4, 1841 and died at his home in Scranton, IA April 15, 1924, at the age of eighty-two years, nine months and eleven days. He came to IA with his parents and settled in Greene county in 1853. He was one of a family of ten children, six boys and four girls. One brother, Jesse C, of Dodge Center, MN and one sister, Matilda Kennett, of Scranton, survive him. The family underwent all the hardships of the pioneer days in IA and in addition, made the trip across the plains via ox team in 1858, staying in the vicinity of the present cities of Denver and Colorado Springs, where he remained for two years before returning to Greene county. He was united in marriage with Mathilda Adkins in 1868. She died in 1869, leaving an infant daughter. He married Mrs. Anna M Young in November 1875. To this union four daughters were born. The family moved to Carrollton (IA) in October 1880. From there they moved to Dedham, IA in May 1883, where he lived until May 1917, since which time he has resided at the present home in Scranton. He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Young of Guthrie Center IA; Mrs. Christy Bielefeldt, of Roland, IA; and Mrs. Rena Bruce, of Yuma, CO; two step children, Mrs. LeRoy Sigler, of Racine, WI and A J Young, of Ames IA; thirty-one grand children and eighteen great grandchildren. He united with the M E church at Dedham in 1894, and became a member of this church by letter when he moved to Scranton, in 1917. Funeral services for this highly esteemed citizen are being held today from the M. E. church, conducted by the pastor Rev. H. G. Hicks assisted by Rev. F. A. Smith of Menlo. Relatives and longtime friends are paying the last sad tribute of profound respect to one whom they loved. Interment was made in the Scranton Cemetery. Cyrus C Gibson was among the very earliest of Greene county settlers, coming here as a boy twelve years of age seventy-one years ago. He knew all the joys and sorrows of pioneer living the through it all maintained a stalwart manhood, a high order of integrity and the high regard and friendship of all who knew him. He was high-minded, kind and true in all the relations of life and radiated sunshine in his home and community. He lived to finish the course-and kept faith. The Journal joins with the entire community in extending sympathy to his widow and family.
