He was born November 23, 1947, in Transylvania County, North Carolina ti the late Ansel Joe Merrill, Sr. and Alma Mae Pruitt Merrill, of Brevard, North Carolina, In addition to his father, his father-in-law, Joe Osteen and a brother-in-law, Jerry Emerson, preceded him in death. He was born November 23, 1947, in Transylvania County, North Carolina ti the late Ansel Joe Merrill, Sr. and Alma Mae Pruitt Merrill, of Brevard, North Carolina, In addition to his father, his father-in-law, Joe Osteen and a brother-in-law, Jerry Emerson, preceded him in death. He retired from Ecusta as a supervisor after 27 years and was employed by G & B Engery of Mills River and a member of Grace Baptist Church, He loved helping everyone; woodworking and bluegrass gospel music. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife of 45 years, Patricia Ann Osteen Merrill, of the home; two sons, Jeff Merrill and wife Susan of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina and Joe Merrill and wife Vicki of Little River, North Carolina; one daughter Crystal Merrill of Little River, North Carolina. one brother, Jerry Merrill and wife Lee of Matthews, North Carolina and two sisters, Linda Shipman and husband, Tom and Elizabeth Emerson, all of Little Ricer, North Carolina; 5 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and his Uncle, Carroll Merrill and his wife, Barbara. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Monday, January 30, 2012, at Grace Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Shane Duncan. Interment followed at Little River Baptist Church Cemetery. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
