She was born May 30, 1910, at Rich Fountain, a daughter of Fritz and Lizzie (Hartman) Hoffman. Lock, age 98, of Freeburg, died Monday, September 15, 2008, in the Maries Manor Health Care Center, Vienna. She was born May 30, 1910, at Rich Fountain, a daughter of Fritz and Lizzie (Hartman) Hoffman. Mrs. Lock was united in marriage on June 22, 1929, at Washington, to Leo Ben Lock and to this union six children were born. Mrs. Lock was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. She worked at Oberman Pants Factory, Tweedie Shoe Factory, Towne Grill and the Department of Revenue, all in Jefferson City, and later at Leona and Pistol's Place at Freeburg, until the business closed. She took care of her grandchildren, Paige and Chelsea Becker until they started school and loved to cook for the family and did so until the age of 95. She was a devoted housewife and homemaker always diligent in providing for the needs of her family. Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Lock include: two sons and daughters-in-law, August and Lucille Lock, state of Texas, Ralph and Jane Lock, Bland; two daughters and one son-in-law, Pauline (Lock) Gardner, Joplin, Leona (Lock) and Eugene Gradel, Freeburg; 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Irene (Hoffman) Laughlin, Freeburg; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 7, 1981; two daughters, Lillian (Lock) Welschmeyer on December 9, 1984 and Roberta (Lock) Boehmer on February 23, 1998; her parents; three brothers, Alphonse Hoffman, Libours Hoffman and Herman Hoffman; one sister, Ann Wirtz; two grandchildren, Steven Gardner and Roger Gardner; two great-grandchildren, Pamela Andert and Broch Steinman; and three sons-in-law, James Welschmeyer, Andrew Boehmer and Grover Gardner. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008, and 10-11 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2008, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. A prayer service will be held for Mrs. Lock at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Lock at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg with Rev. Phil Neikamp officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Spiritual offerings to be applied for Masses or memorial contributions to the Holy Family School, with envelopes available at the church or the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
