Mr. Buus passed away on October 9, 1911. However, Mrs. Buus—now nearing her 94th milestone— ranks as the eldest Lennox resident. Additionally, she possesses two other unique distinctions, having 158 living descendants and heading two five-generation groups. Mrs. Buus has nine children, 59 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren among her living descendants. One five-generation group includes Mrs. Buus and her son John Buus, of Lennox; and Henry Buus, her grandson; Mrs. Norene Larson, her great-granddaughter, and little Lowell Larson, her great-great-grandson, all of Sioux Falls. The other quintet of generations includes Mrs. Buus; Mrs. Joe Miller, sr., Lennox, her daughter; Jerry Miller, Sioux Falls, her grandson; Mrs. Arthur Fritz, great-granddaughter, and little Arthur Fritz, jr., great-great-grandson, of Tea, S. D. Mr. Buus was born in Germany, March 24, 1842. In 1865 he immigrated to the United States and settled at Freeport, IL, marrying there in 1868, to Antje Fokken. In 1870 the pioneer couple immigrated to Holland, IA., remaining there for seven years before entering Dakota Territory and homesteading six miles southwest of Lennox. Mr. and Mrs. Buus were charter members of the Turner county First Presbyterian church, of which the latter is presently one of the two charter members surviving. That congregation was organized in 1880. Mr. and Mrs. Buus took up their residence in Lennox following their retirement from their rural enterprise. Despite her advanced years, Mrs. Buus has most of the time resided by herself since her husband's death, and retained her activeness, although an illness last winter curtailed her duties. Eleven children were born to this union. The eight surviving members are: Mrs. Joe Miller, sr., Mrs. George Gayken, Nan, George, Ben, and John Buus, of Lennox; Henry Buus of Tea and Mrs. J. W. Latrielle, of West Branch, Mich. Mrs. Albert Bellach passed away at Harrisburg last winter. Two children succumbed in their early years.
