Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Miller, Sr., well-known pioneer residents of this community, will fete their golden wedding anniversary soon. Mr. and Mrs. Miller have taken an active part in current affairs and have the distinction of being the longest affiliated with the Lennox Presbyterian church among its present members. Mr. Miller for several years has been associated in local business enterprises, and presently—at the age of 70— manages the H. H. Knock elevator, which position he has held for seven years. He served several terms as alderman from ward two here. Mr. Miller was born May 7, 1869 in Grundy county, Iowa, spending his boyhood days there until 1881 when his parents—Mr. and Mrs. Juren Miller—with other members of the family entered Dakota territory in the fall of that year and settled one-half mile south of the Turner county First Presbyterian church, which is situated southwest of Lennox. Mrs. Miller, nee Hattie Buus, also was born in Grundy county, IA.,—March 21, 1874—however she parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henderk Buus, left the Hawkeye state in favor of making their residence in Dakota and, of course, the Lennox vicinity. They settled five miles southwest of Lennox in 1878. Consequently, Mr. and Mrs. Miller grew to maturity in this locality, and September 7, 1889 they took their marriage vows, with Rev. Ludwig Figge officiating, in the Turner county Presbyterian church. Following their marriage they took up farming three miles southeast of Lennox, and for 30 years continued the tasks necessary in the development of their rural enterprise. In 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Miller took up their residence in Lennox, and in sequence he was first employed as a carpenter; then in the Farmers Elevator eight years, and by the Flanley Grain company two years before becoming attached to his present duties in the Knock elevator. The six children of this couple, are: Ida (Mrs. John Knock), Henry, Jerry, Tony, Al J., and Joe D. Miller. There are 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Miller is one of the members of a five-generation group involving the following: Mrs. Henderk Buus, Mrs. Joe Miller, sr., Jerry Miller, Hilda (Miller) Fritz, and the latter's infant child.
