Saunders, who passed away at the St. Elizabeth hospital in Lincoln last Friday, at the age of 80 years after a long illness. Rites were held in the St. Ludger Catholic church at 2:30 p.m. with the Very Rev. J.B. Falke, officiating. Pallbearers were R.H. Green, R.L. Rice, Wid L. Turner, Wm. Rayer, W.W. Fickling and Dr. F.F. Antoinette Martitan was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Markitan. She was born in Czechoslovakia in 1868. When she was two years old her parents moved to America. After living in Chicago a short time, the family moved to Pocahontas County, Ia., where they made their home for several years until the death of Mrs. Markitan. Following the death of Mrs. Markitan, the father, with his daughter and three sons, came to Knox county and was one of the earliest settlers in the vicinity of Verdigre. Here Antoinette spent her childhood. She was united in marriage with Henry F. Saunders in November 1914 and they made their home in Creighton until four years ago, when they moved to Lincoln because of Mr. Saunders health. She is survived by three brothers, John of Clarkson, Joseph of Bruno and August of Fremont; two stepchildren, S.W. Saunders of Lincoln and Mrs. E. Stochl of Creighton and numerous nieces and nephews.
