Anton Funk was born in Carlbod(sic), Austria, December 15, 1854, and passed away at his farm home near Edgewood last Wednesday forenoon, February 23, at eleven o'clock, at the age of 61 years, 2 month and 8 days, after only abut a week's illness with pneumonia and other complications. Mr. Funk came to Edgewood with his parents when but a boy of 12 years of age, and here he grew to manhood and has since resided. On April 10, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Clara Hammer, and to them nine children were born, four sons and five daughters--George W., Leo A., Louis S., and Leonard L., Mrs. Kate Camp, Mrs. Matilda Anderson, Anna M., Celia E. and Mrs. Laura Derr, who with their grief-stricken mother and his only brother, Joseph, were all at his bedside at the end. Mr. Funk was one of the prosperous farmers of the county and had built up a beautiful home for his family. He was a man who took great interest in his work and was always ready with an open heart to give a helping hand when needed. In 1905 he made a trip across the water to his old home, remaining for three months. A few years ago he and his brother, the late John Funk, had interests in a lumber yard at Edgewood for several years. At the time of his death Mr. Funk was a share owner in the Farmers Creamery and Farmers Savings bank of Edgewood. Besides the wife and children and one brother Mr. Funk leaves to mourn his untimely death a large number of nephews and nieces, and a wide circle of friends and neighbors, who will miss his loving face in every place. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled: A chair is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled.
