A true and loving mother is no more, save in tender and everlasting memory, which by the sweetness of her spirit, and pathetic by the fortitude with which she bore her last illness. Mrs. Funk had a wide circle of acquaintances and was loved and respected by all as the truest and best of mothers; gentle, kindly to all, patient, hospitable, faithful to every duty. Her home was her life, and how much she was the life of that home only the stricken motherless children now fully know. The right to live is in human estimation, the most sacred, the most inviolate, the most inalterable, and yet, when the hour strikes to attend he summons that comes to all, there is no resistance. Unseen hands unlock the Gates of futurity and we pass from the finite bounds of this life to the infinite domain of the great beyond. --Mrs. Funk not only had abiding faith, but labored conscientiously as a devoted, modest and unassuming Christian and with sincerity in all things. She scattered flowers in her path among the living and her kindly acts done daily toward neighbors and all who came in contact with her will never, never be forgotten. Her record is not only full of kindly acts, but not a single act of unkindness is written therein. Selfishness and vanity were strangers to her and she showed the appreciation of the privileges she enjoyed by helping humanity. She never paraded her virtues as an ideal christian, yet she never failed to manifest the true Christian spirit. A devoted Catholic, she gave freely to the work of the church in time and devotion, and her one desire and wish was to be spared to see the completion of the new church of Edgewood. --Mrs. Funk was born at Edgewood, Iowa, Sept. 26, 1864, and passed away from complications of diseases. She had been seriously ill about five weeks and her health had been failing for a number of years, but extremely so the past year. She was prepared to meet her God, only to be joined with her husband in Heaven. Mrs. Funk was left motherless at the age of eleven, with a father and three small sisters who knew only her motherly care. She was married to Anton Funk on April 10th, 1880, and nine children were born to this union. George, Mrs. Kate Camp, Mrs. Matilda Anderson, Mrs. Anna McTaggart, Mrs. Laura Derr, Celia E., Leo, Lois and Leonard at home, and two sisters, Mary Lucinia, Halbur, Iowa, Mrs. L. A. Pollard, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Mary who preceded her in death several years ago. Also two grandchildren, Veyrl and Valcry Camp, and a number of nephews and nieces to mourn her death. It was God who called you, mother, Called you home among the blest, And you listended to His warning, Bad adieu and found sweet rest. We are lonely now, dear mother, Lonely since you've gone away, But we'll trust and meet you mother, When the mists have rolled away. Dear mother, thou hast left us, And thy loss we deeply feel, But it's God that hath bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal.
