Was blind by 1850. As the story goes, he as many in the area contracted cholorea and a doctor was called in. The doctor poored acid directly into Anton's eyes and he was blind from then on.

Married Katherina Hahn May 20, 1833 at St. Nicolas Church, Schirrhein, Alsace.
