Description	:	Anton "Tony" Schwengler died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laurel. He was born Dec. 2, 1912, in Napoleon, N.D., the son of Adam and Regina (Heintz) Schwengler. He was raised on a farm near Solen, N.D. On his 12th birthday, his beloved mother died, leaving his father with six small children. His father married Elizabeth Messer and their union added seven more children to the family. Read More	Anton "Tony" Schwengler died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laurel. He was born Dec. 2, 1912, in Napoleon, N.D., the son of Adam and Regina (Heintz) Schwengler. He was raised on a farm near Solen, N.D. On his 12th birthday, his beloved mother died, leaving his father with six small children. His father married Elizabeth Messer and their union added seven more children to the family. On June 16, 1932, Tony married Veronica Messer in Center, N.D., and they began their married life together living in a log cabin and farming in the Solen area. They moved to Bismarck, N.D., where Tony began his truck driving career, which continued for 22 years. They moved to Billings in 1953 and to Laurel in 1978. Tony and Veronica were married for 65 years and worked hard at making a living and raising their five children. Tony's "Little Woman" Veronica died in 1997. Their children blessed them with 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Tony was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Schwengler Blasingame; son-in-law, Lawrence Blasingame; daughter-in-law, Laura Lee Schwengler; three grandsons; one great-grandson; two brothers, Adam and Stanley; two sisters, Rose Glasser and Margaret Sprague. He is survived by son James and Ethel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son Ray and daughter-in-law Alice of Saginaw, Texas, Michael and daughter-in-law Theresa of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter Shirley and son-in-law, Willard Ketterling of Joliet; five brothers, Louis of Bismarck, Jack of Fargo, N.D., Peter of Anoka, Minn., Eugene of Park Rapids, Minn., and Bill of Mandan, N.D.; three sisters, Josephine Himmelspach, Betty Swenson, both of Bismarck, and Alice Ereth of Mandan. Vigil and Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 15, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laurel, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Billings.
