Kaup celebrant of the solemn requiem mass with two grandsons, Rev. Roger Steffen, Omaha, and Rev. Emmett Meyer, Randolph, as deacon and subdeacon. Burial was in St. Rose Cemetery. Pall bearers were grandsons, Duane Meyer, Jerry, Marvin, Keith and Lyle Steffen and Stephen Cooney. Norbert and Rodney Steffen, Crofton, also grandsons, were mass servers. He married Katherine Ausdemore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ausdemore, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Constance, May 9, 1906. The couple farmed in the Crofton and Menominee area. They retired and moved to Crofton in 1943. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1956. Mr. Steffen was a member of the Holy Name Society and Catholic Order of Foresters of St. Rose Parish. Prior to his retirement had served as a member of the board of School District 110 for 20 years. He is survived by his widow: three sons, Lawrence, Crofton: Norbert and John of Sioux Falls, SD.; four daughters, Mrs. Peter Meyer, Bloomfield, Mrs. Emmet Cooney, Lincoln, Mrs, Richard Elliott, Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Wesley Zurcher, Crofton; a sister, Mrs. Frank Buschkamp, Fordyce, 38 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Arthur; a daughter, five brothers, one of whom was a twin, William; two sisters and one grandchild.
