Anton Joseph Svitak, young David City man known to his many friends as Tony Svitak, passed away at 4:30 o'clock Thursday morning, April 13, at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Everett McCracken, following illness of two years with a complication of diseases. He was 32 years of age. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 17, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Adolph Mosler. The David City Fire Department, Modern Woodmen and Knights of Columbus, of which Mr. Svitak was an active member, attended as organizations and marched in the funeral procession. The Woodmen were accompanied by their junior drill team. Music was by St. Mary's choir. Pallbearers were Charles Buntgen, Charles Karish, Emerson Kasparek, Joe Prohaska, Peter Reisdorff and Roy Welte. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, David City. Relatives in attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Mr. and Mrs. Anton Janousek, Joe Janousek and son and daughter and Ernest Janousek from Brainard and Miss Clara Buntgen from Columbus. Mr. Svitak had always lived in Butler county, born at Brainard April 17, 1901, and had resided in David City since he was five years of age. He was married to Isabelle Airhart in January, 1925. To them was born a son, Philip, who survives. Mr. Svitak also leaves his father, Anton Svitak, Sr., and two sisters, Mrs. Everett McCracken and Mrs. R. H. Mathieu, of David City, his stepmother, Mrs. Anton Svitak, Sr., three half brothers, Jerry, Jimmie and Charles, and one half-sister, Anna, at home, and a step-sister, Maria Dobra, who lives in Chicago. Until his health failed, Mr. Svitak was always a hard-working young man, employed in J. G. Duncan's produce house for several years and also engaged in poultry raising at his home. He was of friendly disposition and made many friends who sincerely mourn his passing. ______ Card of Thanks - We wish to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness during the sickness and at time of death of our son and brother, and also wish to thank the many friends for their beautiful floral offerings.
