Petracek of this city. He was born at Tritce, Czechoslovakia on June 10, 1863. In 1897 he emigrated to America with his parents, Joseph and Agnes Petracek. Read More	************************************************ Another Saline County pioneer departed this world on December 24 at his home in Milligan, Nebraska. He was the father of L.R. Petracek of this city. He was born at Tritce, Czechoslovakia on June 10, 1863. In 1897 he emigrated to America with his parents, Joseph and Agnes Petracek. The family homesteaded twelve miles west of Wilber on Swan Creek. Besides helping the family establish itself in their adopted fatherland, he attended school to master the English language. In 1890 he sought work in Chicago, Illinois where he met Antonia Zdenek, who became his wife. To them were born nine sons, two dying in infancy. Of the survivors, L.R. Petracek resides here in Crete, L.B. lives in Milligan; Joseph, Alfred, Arnold, and Frank reside in Chicago; while William lives in Ravenna. His wife, Antonia, departed this world on January 17, 1923 and is buried at North Fork Cemetery, where the deceased was buried last Sunday. Twenty years ago he suffered an injury to his head in a runaway, which caused a paralysis from which he never fully recovered. This, with advancing years, added to his burden and although offered a home with his sons, he preferred to live alone and take care of himself as best he could. His active years were divided between farming and business in and around Milligan. He was a man of brilliant mind and studious nature, although an adventurer. In 1900 Klondike gold beckoned him, but netted him naught but gray hair. In the prime of life he made a host of friends who liked him for his jovial nature, sincerity, and frankness. He was a past officer of the Sokols and ZCBJ Lodge, whose rituals were used at the grave. Chas. Smrha, a life-long friend of the family, conducted the services. He leaves seven sons, four sisters, and two brothers. The end came to him suddenly from heart failure, after 73 years and 6 months of life's joys and griefs, prosperity, and hardship, pleasure, and suffering.
