Description	:	Archa Vaughan Jr., 89, of Pulaski, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born and raised in Floyd County. He was born Feb. 26, 1919 on the family farm, Zionia. He was a 1942 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Read More	Archa Vaughan Jr., 89, of Pulaski, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born and raised in Floyd County. He was born Feb. 26, 1919 on the family farm, Zionia. He was a 1942 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. In that year, he married Marjorie Hope and began teaching at Liberty Hall High School in Lodi. During World War II he served in the United States Marine Corp at Paris Island, S.C., and in the Pacific. After returning, he taught school at Rich Valley High School and Marion High School before turning to a career in finance and banking in Abingdon, Pulaski and Dublin. He retired from Wachovia to continue his love for farming at Zionia. He was a member and former elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Pulaski. He belonged to a number of fraternal and civic organizations, including the Lion’s Club, the Elk’s Club, and Pulaski Science Club. He was also a member of the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. For many years he enjoyed severing on the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors, often as chairman, and he served on the Public SVC Authority, the board of Southwest Virginia Cattlemen’s Association and the Pulaski County Livestock Market. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archa (PaPa) and Beulah Margaret (Mama Peg) Vaughan Sr., his wife, Marjorie Hope Harman Vaughan, an infant brother, Howard Vaughan, his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Ann Vaughan (Peggy Ann) and Hardin Cox, a brother and sister-in-law, Clement S. and Jean Hartly Vaughan, a brother, George Robert Vaughan, a sister-in-law, Lou Alice Slusher Vaughan, by brothers-in-law, Marvin H. Harman and C.W. Harman, and by a nephew, Taylor Wright Vaughan. Survivors include one son, Archa Vaughan III of Charleston, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Hope and Tom Sullivan of Chilhowie; grandson and wife, Joshua and Amy Sullivan of Asheville, N.C.; granddaughter, Jeslyn Vaughan of Richmond; brothers, Maurice H. Vaughan of Martinsburg, W.Va., William D. Vaughan, and wife, Dean, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; sister- in-law, Margaret H. Harman of Willis; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Kackley and the Rev. Tom Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd. The visitation was held Tuesday evening at Steven’s Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, I Morton Dr. Suite 106, Charlottesville, VA 22903. Stevens Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
