MULLINS - Archibald Hinson Buchan, 65 years old, died this morning at the Mullins hospital after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the residence, with burial following in Cedardale Cemetery. The Rev. Eugene G. Beckman, his pastor of the Mullins Presbyterian Church, will conduct the service. Mr. Buchan was born in Manly, N.C., November 23, 1882, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Buchan. He received his education at Union Home School, Guilford College and Massy Business College in North Carolina. In 1910 he arrived in Mullins, beginning his tobacco career originally as bookkeeper of the W. A. Gray Tobacco Company. In 1920, he organized his own tobacco re-drying company, known as the A. H. Buchan and Company, Inc., with himself serving as president. He also served as president of the Davis National Bank, a position he has held since its organization. Mr. Buchan was a member of the board of governors of the United States Tobacco Organization, an elder of the Mullins Presbyterian Church and a member of the board of trustees of the Mullins hospital. He was also a former member of the city council and of the board of trustees of the city schools. Surviving are the widow, the former Miss Clara Austin Smith, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Smith, pioneer settlers of Mullins; three sons, J. Edward Buchan, James R. Buchan and E. Smith Buchan, all of Mullins; one daughter, Mrs. Walter B. Creighton of Mullins; two brothers, E. R. Buchan of Kinston, N.C. and H. C. Buchan of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. R. F. Stewart of Washington, D.C. and Miss Flora Buchan of Sanford, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
