Description	:	Funeral Rites Held Monday For Archie Joy Archie L. Joy, well-known business man of Miller, and president of the Tri-State Insulation Company, died suddenly at his home shortly before midnight Friday, February 24. He had suffered a heart condition for a number of years. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church. Pastor Charles Brown officiated at the service. Interment was in the G.A.R. Cemetery. Active pallbearers ere Everett Williams, Delmar Peterson, Mike Beaner, Elnathan Pawlovich, Bob Hammill and Doyle Westby. Honorary pallbearers were John Arens, Lee Blake, Fred Brown, Vincent Lumby, Thomas Westby, Emmanuel Allerdings, Gordon Quashnick, Marvin Wilson, Pat Hollenbeck, John Beaner, Veral Borah, Howard Evans, Anton Ruzicka, Howard Wilson, A.C. Fix, James L. Robins and Robert Witte, employees of the company, from over the state. Joy was born July 30, 1902, in Huron and moved with his parents, to Midland, where the family homesteaded. At the age of 15 he took over the family responsibilities. He graduated from the School of Agriculture at Brookings and served as county agent of Stanley County for six years. In 1931 he became Rural Credits fieldman for Stanley County, and in 1933 he moved to Midland as a bulk agent for Standard Oil Company. He was married to Fern Blue at Harrisburg, July 22, 1930, and they were the parents of five children. In the mid-30’s Joy started the Archie Joy Enterprises, which he sold in 1953. In 1948, he launched the Tri-State Insulation Company, and the family moved to Miller. The business has expanded to cover most of South Dakota at the present time. His three sons are associated with the firm. Joy was a member of the Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, and Miller Civic and commerce Association. Survivors include his widow, Fern; three sons, Vernon, Richard and Donald, all of Miller; two daughters, Ardis, Mrs. Glen Koppelman, Rapid City; Doris, Mrs. David Rice, Aberdeen; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Edgar, Eagle Butte; Harold, Midland; Lewis, Murdo; three sisters, Mrs. W. J. Bierman, Mrs. Joe Shilling, both of Midland; and Mrs. Stanley Sampson, Interior. The Reck Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
