Lee was born August 23, 1923, at Big Timber the first of three sons of Leonard and Clara Drivdahl Overfelt. He grew up on a sheep ranch on Big Timber Creek and graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in 1941. After graduation, Lee headed for Los Angeles where he worked and attended Los Angeles City College. During World War II he served on a Navy weather ship in the Pacific. Upon his discharge in 1946, Lee returned to his parents' home in Great Falls and met the girl next door, Dona Mae Skabo. They were married June 11, 1947, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Lee finished his undergraduate studies at College of Education, Great Falls. He attended the University of Montana Law School, Missoula, graduating in 1951 and began his legal career in Great Falls. The family moved to Billings in 1953 where Lee was in the Private practice of law for 45 years. He was a strong advocate for his clients and win, lose or draw, he always walked away knowing he was right. Lee was a lifetime member of the VFW Club, Billings Exchange Club, Rod and Gun Club, the Billings Petroleum Club, and the Montana and American Trial Lawyers Associations. Undaunted by quixotic quests, he was actively involved in Democratic Party politics in Yellowstone County. Lee loved the mountains and prairies of Montana, enjoyed backpacking and hunting trips with family and friends, and even took up downhills skiing at the age of 48. He enjoyed walking the golf course but not necessarily hitting the ball, and he never quite got over Dona Mae's hole-in-one. Lee was a voracious reader, favoring history, and a great believer in education. His unselfish love for his children was evidenced by his insistence and perseverance in seeing that all five of his children completed their higher education. Survivors include his wife, Dona Mae of Billings; a son, Gary Overfelt (Corrine Courtney); daughters, Kerin Kinzer (Mike) of Sheridan, Wyoming, Rika McBride (Tim) of Billings and Shelly Lynch (Mark) of Seattle, Washington; son Brian Overfelt of Billings; and seven granddaughters, Brytt and Kylee Kinzer, Jamie, Lauren, and Morgan McBride and Carly and Cassie Lynch. He is also survived by his mother, Clara Overfelt of Great Falls; and his brothers, Clarence Overfelt (Allyce) of Grea Falls and Marvin Overfelt (Charlene) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 25 in Billings. Cremation has taken place.
