Description	:	Archie Shaw, employe of the Patterson & Turnbull garage, died about seven am Tuesday as a result of burns and shock received when gasoline explodes as he was filling the town's street maintainer about 5:30 pm Monday evening in front of the garage. Read More	Archie Shaw, employe of the Patterson & Turnbull garage, died about seven am Tuesday as a result of burns and shock received when gasoline explodes as he was filling the town's street maintainer about 5:30 pm Monday evening in front of the garage. Victor Newman, town marshal, was using the maintainer on the streets and stopped at the garage to fill with gasoline. As Mr Shaw came out, Mr Newman went in for a can of water, and as he was filling the can the motor died. He continued to fill the can with water and then heard a scream. He ran to the front of the garage and met Mr Shaw in the driveway. He threw the can of water and partially put out the flames, and the other men in the garage put coats and other clothing around Mr Shaw to put out the flames. It is thought that the explosion occurred when Mr Shaw filled the tnk and attempted to shut off the hose. The connection had been striking, and it is though that he pulled the hose from the tank and gasoline ran down onto the hot motor and exploded. The tank of the maintainer is located just above the motor. Archie Shaw was born on July 15, 1884, at Bloomfield IA, the son of Mr and Mrs John Shaw. He came to MT in the early days and worked in Terry for the Milwaukee railroad as they were laying the track through this region. For a number of years, he rode the range for cattlemen in this area, including the Kempton and Joubert outfits. He also engaged in farming for a few years and for the past several years has been mechanic and workman at the Patterson & Turnbull garage. He was a ember of the Woodman lodge. On June 25, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Mae Lynch, the ceremony taking place in Miles City. To this union were born four children, one daughter, Marie Helen, passing away on January 1, 1919. The children surviving are two daughters, Kathleen and Betty Jane, and one son, John. Two sisters, Mrs Ross Pratton of Columbus and Mrs Boyd Lehman of Trident, and four brothers, John, Luther, and Charles of Ten Sleep, and Elmer of CA, also survive. Funeral services will be held this afternoon Thursday, at 2:30 pm at the Terry Community Church with Supt CW Grandey in charge of the services. Pallbearers will be Lloyd Docksader,FL Patterson, Vern Liles, Claude Hickok, Robert Bragg and William Feldman. Interment will be made in the Terry cemetery. ---The Terry Tribune 6-15-1939 p. 1
