She passed away at the Sunrise Retirement Home in Sioux City. Her funeral service is 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ipswich SD with Pastor Mark Gullerud officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. She passed away at the Sunrise Retirement Home in Sioux City. Ardella was born to Gottlieb and Emma (Treft) Weisenberger on February 17, 1930 on the family farm in Bowdle SD where she grew up with her two younger siblings. She attended a small country school through the eighth grade that was located between Bowdle and Tolstoy. She advanced her education through an American Home School Program located in Chicago as her assistance was needed on the farm. Della learned her work ethic at a young age walking behind the plow and tending to livestock. She cleaned homes for families in Aberdeen and Ipswich and for several years she cleaned for John Hein and the funeral home. For a short period of time she worked in the Ipswich school cafeteria and was employed at Morris Grill Restaurant when she met her husband. She married Herbert Wockenfuss of Groton SD on July 22, 1952. After a brief honeymoon to the Black Hills, the couple made their home in Ipswich for 53 years where they raised their seven children. They moved to the retirement community in Sioux City in October 2005. She remained in the area after the passing of her husband in December 2007. Church and a strong faith in God were an extremely vital element of Ardella's life. She joined the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ipswich soon after her marriage and became a member of Ladies Aid where she also served one term as Vice President. She taught Sunday school for a short time and always looked forward to the many church functions. Ardella was a very dedicated mother and friend. She took great pride in raising their seven gifts from God and treasured each moment that was spent with family and friends. She enjoyed entering sweepstakes, rebating, and cutting coupons which she shared with family and friends. Della lived each day ready to lend a helping hand to anyone, she always found the good in people and tried to get others to do the same. She is survived by her seven sons, Darvin (Hazel) Wockenfuss of Panama City Beach, FL; Duane (Wendy) Wockenfuss of Colorado Springs, CO; Jim (Jan) Wockenfuss of Glen Carbon, IL; Gene (Callie) Wockenfuss of Madison, SD; Gary (Kari) Wockenfuss Weeping Water,NE; John (Deb) Wockenfuss of Sioux City, IA; Jared (Sandy) Wockenfuss of Sherman, TX; 15 grandchildren; Michael, Melissa, Alicia, Jeremy, Shannon, Stephanie, Timothy, Ryan, Wade, Cory, Kyle, Cody, Rebecca, Blake, and Anna; 15 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; Matt, Josh, Jennifer, Scott, Josh, Chris, Victoria, Abby, Angie, and Mark; 4 step great grandchildren; one brother LeRoy (Vera) Weisenberger of Groton, SD; one sister Betty (Edgar) "Woody" Scruggs of Pueblo, CO; two nieces, one nephew, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years and her parents.
