Ardis was born on October 9, 1921, in St. Donatus, Iowa, the daughter of Allen and Clara (Hueneke) Felderman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Donatus, Iowa. Read More	Ardis Alma (Felderman) Gaylor, 96, of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. Ardis was born on October 9, 1921, in St. Donatus, Iowa, the daughter of Allen and Clara (Hueneke) Felderman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Donatus, Iowa. The Felderman farms were located just one mile from St. Donatus School where Ardis and her brother attended school through the eighth grade. She then attended and graduated from Bellevue High School, Bellevue, Iowa, in 1939. On January 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Frederick C. Gaylor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in St. Donatus. The couple lived in Bellevue and Dubuque, later moving to Sibley and then Des Moines. In 1951, they moved to Waverly where they opened the first super market in Waverly on West Bremer Avenue. In 1960, Fred and Ardis purchased property formerly known as the Kelley Canning Factory to relocate their grocery business and to develop a shopping center, now known as Collegetowne Plaza. Ardis worked as a manager for a Sears catalog center in Sibley and later did all the book work for their supermarket, Fred’s Super Valu. In 1980, Ardis began her job as financial secretary for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, a position she held until retiring in 1991. Fred died on April 21, 2001, and Ardis remained in her home until 2010 when she moved to the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. Fred and Ardis were faithful members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; and for several years, Ardis would volunteer her time once a week helping to count the offering from the week’s church services. She served on the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community Board, was past president and treasurer of the Hospital Auxiliary Board, and volunteered many hours at the hospital gift shop. What gave Ardis the most joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family in Bellevue and St. Donatus. Ardis is survived by two daughters, Nancy Zimmerman of Waverly, Iowa, and Sara Gaylor (Mark Amo) of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons, Steven Gaylor of Escondido, California, and David (Lisa) Gaylor of Peosta, Iowa. Her eight grandchildren are Jane Zimmerman of O’Connor, ACT, Australia; Steven Zimmerman of New Hampton; Angela Gaylor of Austin, Texas; Christopher Gaylor of Brooklyn, New York; Ana (Luke) Gibbs of Robbinsdale, Minnesota; Lara (Edward) Cho of Chicago, Illinois; Alex Amo of Rennes, France; and Elise Amo of St. Louis, Missouri. Her three great grandchildren are Rose Viola and James David Gibbs and Gia Delsol. Ardis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; and their infant daughter, Adelheit; and her brother, Edmund Felderman. She was the last member of her generation in both the Felderman and Gaylor extended families. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Waverly, with Pastor Sandra Burroughs officiating. Interment will be in Harlington Cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Waverly Health Center or the Chaplaincy Fund at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
