She was 98 years young. Arilla Mae went to sleep to await Jesus return. She was born in the Jumpoff Ridge area above Stemilt Hill, where her parents, W.F. Branin homesteaded in the early 1900s. A 100 yr. Anniversary was recently celebrated. Mae was married to Adam M. Hurd and 6 children were born of this union, Gloria Adsitt of Apache Junction, AZ, Lauretta Baldwin of Renton, WA, Bonnie Nottage of Spokane, WA, Melbert Hurd who preceded her in death, Alfred Hurd of East Wenatchee WA and Colleen Peart of East Wenatchee, WA. There are 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-great-grandchildren. Mae was married to Adam almost 60 years and then married Oscar Wysong who also preceded her in death. She later married Melvin Ward of Wenatchee with whom she resided. Mae loved children and even while raising her own managed to find the time to take care of Foster children as well as her grandchildren who were always welcome. Mae always raised a garden, had a cow and chickens, baked bread, canned fruit and vegetables and worked in the Orondo packing shed at times. Mae was a longtime and faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Western Avenue and loved Jesus. Mae liked telling of her life growing up on Jumpoff Ridge until her family moved to a place in East Wenatchee where her father raised Pears. She attended East Wenatchee and Wenatchee Schools. Mae also became a practical nurse and helped in the Wenatchee Hospitals. She was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed and she will be greatly missed by all of her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A yearly family reunion was held in Washington Park to help celebrate her many birthdays, her 98th was celebrated at her home. Commemoration services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wenatchee Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor Mike Aufderhar officiating. Concluding services and the Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon to 5:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
