She was born Jan. 11, 1899, to William F. and Armina (Watkins) Branin at Sidney, Ohio. At the age of 2, she moved with her family to Wenatchee, where she grew up and received her education. Read More	Wenatchee World - December 10, 1995 WENATCHEE - Laura Belle Monesmith, 96, a longtime resident of Wenatchee, died Friday, Dec. 8, 1995, at her home. She was born Jan. 11, 1899, to William F. and Armina (Watkins) Branin at Sidney, Ohio. At the age of 2, she moved with her family to Wenatchee, where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1918, then attended a year of school in Cheney, receiving a one-year teaching certificate. She taught at Winesap at a small school, teaching all eight grades. She then worked at Majestic Valley on Rock Island Road. She married Gus Monesmith on June 9, 1920, at Wenatchee. They lived with his mother on a 10-acre orchard, the first orchard planted on the eastside of the Columbia River. They moved to Rock Island in 1926, and then to Wenatchee in February 1933. Mrs. Monesmith taught at a small country school at Merritt on Stevens Pass. She then taught at Manson and later Wenatchee Heights for two years. During this time she took extension courses from Central Washington College in Ellensburg and the University of Washington. After teaching at Wenatchee Heights for two years, she taught at Mold in Douglas County. Mrs. Monesmith taught at Orondo from 1953 until she retired in 1965. She was asked to return to teach at Wenatchee Heights School and taught there for a year, retiring for a second time in 1966. She was a member of the Wenatchee Brethren Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Tom of Wenatchee; three daughters, Mildred Travis, Nellie D. Reeves and Marion Gossman, all of Wenatchee; a brother, William I. of Wenatchee; three sisters, Goldie Petesorich of Waterville and Mae Ward and Grace McIntyre, both of Wenatchee; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970, and three brothers. Arrangements are by Jones and Jones Funeral Directors, Wenatchee.
