She enjoyed her 100th birthday with a party and visiting friends and family. Arla was born in Alpena, SD on May 5th, 1921. Arla was the seventh and youngest child of John and Margrette Aye. She joined older siblings Clara, Faye, Willis, Lester, John and Glada. In 1924 the family moved from Alpena to the family homestead in Epsie, MT. Arla would always remind her sister Glada that they both started first grade together in the same year, as Arla had learned how to read at the age of four. This was the beginning of a lifelong love of books and all things reading. Arla attended the Two Tree School until the eighth grade and then moved to Miles City to attend high school at Custer County High School, as Broadus did not have a high school at the time. She and Glada graduated together in 1937, their yearbook had the caption "The Aye girls have it'. After graduation Arla spent some time back at the family ranch. During this time, she met a young man from Ashland named Mike Green. Unknown to them they would reconnect later in life and marry. After graduation Arla worked for a bank in New York City and later during World War 2, she and Glada worked for the government in Washington State. In the early 1960's our adventurous Aunt packed her Lincoln and moved to Carmel by the Sea, California. In Carmel she purchased a home and lived there the rest of her life. She reconnected with Mike Green in 1975 and were married. The two opened a very successful antiques store in Moss Landing, CA, called "Michaels". They retired from the business in 1996. In April 2000, Mike passed away after an accident. Arla remained in Carmel after Mike's passing, even though much of the family wanted her to move back to Montana. Even though she didn't move back, Arla made sure to make frequent trips home well into her 90's and have adventures with Glada. Arla spent many hours volunteering at thrift shops in the Carmel area. She always had a keen eye for antiques and enjoyed rummage sales. Over the years she hosted and helped many of her nieces and nephews, making many wonderful memories with their time together. Thanks Aunt Arla! She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her Husband Mike, her parents, all of her siblings, niece Gail and Nephews John, Fred, Herbie and Bill. A graveside service for Arla with interment of Arla and Mike Green will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Custer County Cemetery in Miles City, MT. Because of Arla's love of books, the family requests any memorials be made to the Miles City Public Library.
