There will be a prayer service Tuesday at 7:00 pm with visitation from 6:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home in Ellendale. Arlan died August 26, 2017 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen. Arlan P. Fiechtner was born in rural Dickey County, Hamburg Township, near Monango, ND on August 2, 1927, to parents Reinhold and Caroline (Gebhardt) Fiechtner. Arlan lived and worked his entire life on the family farm, which was homesteaded in the early 1890’s. Arlan was married to Ellen Louise Speidel on March 25, 1951, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Monango, ND. Arlan and Ellen’s marriage was blessed with seven children. They celebrated 66 years of marriage and his 90th birthday in 2017. Arlan (“Frosh” to his friends), was unwavering in his faith, support and service to his church, family and community. He was an elder and chairman of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Monango, and served leadership roles in the local and district Lutheran Layman’s League. He also served on community boards in different capacities including Hamburg Township, the Monango Elevator and Farmer’s Union/Cenex for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed the many relationships and friendships he developed from these interactions. Arlan was a loyal supporter of his children’s activities in sports, music and academics. He attended many competitions, games, concerts and graduations over the decades of a growing and maturing family. Arlan was a gifted mechanic and repairman, using his patience and “know how” to keep the family farm operating efficiently. Arlan’s favorite pastime was sports. He would simultaneously watch a game on television and listen to another on the radio, especially if it involved a local team. He was a lifetime baseball fan, playing and managing local teams as well as following the Aberdeen Pheasants, St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins. Arlan is survived by Ellen, his wife of 66 years, and their seven children; Wayne (Janet) Fiechtner, Ardith (David) Petersen, Steven (Cindy) Fiechtner, Lois (Tobias) Rath, Debra (Alan) Kones, Jerome (Janet) Fiechtner and Kristine (David) Eide. Arlan is also survived by one sister, Helen (Paul, deceased) Speidel; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arlan was preceded in death by his parents Reinhold and Caroline Fiechtner, and one sister, Laura (Reinhold) Kehren. Adapted from Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory obituary
