Arlene Ella Stanley was born June 22, 1919, in Poweshiek County Jackson Township, to J. Elzy and Sarah Leona Simpson Harry. She attended school in Montezuma. After leaving school, she worked for Coopers and cared for the elderly. She married A. W. (Willard) Stanley on March 12, 1940. They had three children: A. W. Jr., Sara Ann and Patricia Jean. During her marriage, Arlene worked at the Monte Cafe and at various other jobs. In 1969 she and her husband founded Montezuma Manufacturing Co., and manufactured and installed automatic brushless car washers which he desugned and engineered. In 1982 they retired from the car wash business and moved to Loveland, Colo., where they owned and operated a liquor store until 1990, when they moved back to Montezuma. Arlene remained there until May 2000, when she moved back to Loveland, Colo., where she and her daughter Sara both lived in the home of Barbara Little until Arlene's death. She enjoyed her family and friends, eating out, shopping, watching professional basketball and bull riding, and listening to big band and country music. In her younger days she and her husband enjoyed square dancing. She is survived by two daughters: Sara Stanley of Berthoud, Colo., and Patricia (Larry) Reed of Centerville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Geraldine Stanford and Pauline (Bill) Bernard, both of Montezuma; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard; her son Junior (Alvah); and two brothers Raymond (Ray) Harry and William (Bill) Harry. Oskaloosa Herald Paper 9/20/2001
