Together, they... Read More	Arlene Eklund, 88, Bowbells, ND, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015, in St. Luke’s Sunrise Care Center of Crosby. Arlene J. Swenson was born April 14, 1927, the daughter of Carl and Ella (Samuelson) Swenson, in Burke County, rural Bowbells, ND. She was raised on the family farm and attended a country school in the Burke County area. Arlene married Arthur A. Eklund November 13, 1945. They made their home on the Eklund homestead until 1957, when they moved to the Coteau, ND. In 1961, they moved to a farm located in Bowbells Township, of Burke County, east of Bowbells. Together, they farmed small grains and raised livestock. She was Art’s right hand man as she drove truck to haul bales and grain. During this time, she worked as housekeeper at Bowbells Hotel, had cooked for the Lions Club, had cooked breakfast at the Bowbells Golf Course, and painted the interior of several houses in the Bowbells area. Arthur passed away May 4, 2011. Following Art’s death, she continued to reside at the St. Luke’s Sunrise Care Center in Crosby. Arlene was a member of United Methodist Church of Bowbells, the Bowbells American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, baking, gardening, bowling, dancing, and family gatherings. Surviving family includes: children, Juli (Darrell) Brenno, Columbus, and Dan (Amy) Eklund, Columbus; grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Henke, and Kevin (Jamie) Eklund; Tamrin (Shane) Fagerland, Jason Brenno and his friend, Emily, and Shayla (Greg) Ryberg; and Shanon (Kevin) Fairchild, Sherry Eklund and her companion, Patrick, and Samantha (Gerry) Boysen; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; brother, Eldon Swenson, Bowbells; sisters-in-law, Esther Swenson, Port Angeles, Washington, Marion Swenson, Minot, and Irene Swenson, Kenmare; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Art Eklund, son, Waine Eklund; sister, Gladys (Hilbert) Pfeifer; and brothers, Henry, Manfred, Bertil (Clara), and Donald Swenson.
