Memorial Services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday October 25 2002 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa Iowa with Rev. Clair Odell of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa officiating. Highly was born on March 23 1931 in Cedar County Iowa to Ralph Siders and Nellie DeVore Siders. Her early education was received in country schools at Mount Zion and Atalissa. She had attended West Liberty schools and graduated from Tipton High School in 1949 and reigned as Miss Tipton competing in the Miss Iowa Contest. She loved horseback riding in her younger years and was active in music both vocal and instrument and drama during high school. In her early years she worked for Akers Cleaners in Tipton and for the Cedar County Attorney. She married Lee E. Highly on January 1 1950 at the Methodist Church in Tipton Iowa. After marriage they moved to Kansas City Missouri where she worked for Hallmark Card Company. They moved to Maquoketa in 1954. She was a homemaker and also worked part-time at the Westside Grocery Store and Crestridge Nursing Home. She later worked full time at the Maquoketa Medical Center for 19 years retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Maquoketa Country Club and was an avid golfer. She enjoyed her family flowers and garden. She and her husband had traveled extensively in the United States Canada and Mexico. She is Survived By: Her Husband- Lee E. Highly of Maquoketa IA; Children- Tim(Connie) Highly of Pflugerville TX Tom(Nancy) Highly of Moline IL & Deb(Mrs. Bernie) Burmeister of Cedar Rapids IA; 5 Grandchildren- Amber Brett Jason Trent & Jessica; 1 Step-Grandson- Joe; 1 Great-Grandson- Zachery; 1 Brother- Kenneth(Charlotte) Siders of Cedar Rapids IA; & 2 Sisters- Lois Puderbaugh of West Liberty IA & Ruth Chelf of West Liberty IA. She was preceded in death by her parents 1 brother- Earl Siders & 1 Sister- Edith Fulwider in November of 2001. Memorial Fund has been established.
