She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Coon Rapids. She attended a country school in Union township and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1943. Read More	*Arlene Mae (Sorensen) Benton, daughter of Soren Sorensen and Anna (Juhl*) Sorensen, was born May 19, 1925, on a farm south of Coon Rapids. She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Coon Rapids. She attended a country school in Union township and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1943. After graduation she worked at the Guthrie County Treasurers office until 1945. On December 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Veryl Eugene Benton in Guthrie Center.… To this union, two sons were born, Ronald Lee and Mark Eugene Benton. Arlene was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She wasn't afraid to help with chores and always had lunch and desserts for Veryl and the boys and hired men. Veryl and Arlene enjoyed spending time with friends, family and their neighborhood friends going dancing and spending time at the racetrack. They also were able to travel spending time in Hawaii, Las Vegasand the Bahama's. Arlene loved working in her yard and flowers, especially the red and yellow roses. She also enjoyed baking and made many quilts which she shared with her family. She looked forward to sharing time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Veryl and Arlene retired and moved to Guthrie Center in 1997. She joined the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and became active in circle groups. She also belonged to Guthrie Center Women's Club. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years,Veryl, sons Ron and Donna, Guthrie Center, IA; Mark and Becky, Guthrie Center, IA; brother and sister in law Milo and Betty Sorensen, 6 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren; 18 great grandsons, and 5 great granddaughters.
