Description	:	*Veryl Eugene Benton, son of John Benton and Luella (Rawlings) Benton, was born January 24, 1924, at Bear Grove Township. He was baptized at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Coon Rapids. Veryl was a farmer raising cattle, hogs and row crops and he sold feed for Vigortone.… Veryl and Arlene lived on the Sorensen home place and raised their sons there. Veryl took life in stride and counted his many blessings every day. Veryl was a farmer at heart and devoted his life to his farm, working hand in hand with his wife and sons. Veryl took pride in being a good neighbor and was always lending a helping hand to those around him. Veryl liked to relax by playing cards with his friends in Coon Rapids and later in Guthrie Center. He looked forward to sharing time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Veryl and Arlene retired and moved to Guthrie Center in 1997. They joined the United Methodist Church. Veryl continued to help on the farm when needed and enjoyed working part-time for Helena Chemical Company. In Veryl's later years he was devoted to caring for Arlene in their home and at the New Homestead, rarely missing a day with her. Veryl was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Benton, who passed away just one week prior to Veryl's passing. His parents, John and Luella Benton, his siblings, Donald Benton, Bernice (Oscar) Heckman, Mary (Carl) Mullican, Robert Benton, Kenny Benton and sister in law Elvera (Bob) Boldt. Veryl is survived by his sons Ron and Donna, Guthrie Center, IA; Mark and Becky, Guthrie Center, IA; brother and sister in law Milo and Betty Sorensen, sister in law Rachael Benton, sister in law Delia Benton, 6 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren; 18 great grandsons, and 5 great granddaughters.
