THURSDAY FEBRUARY 27, 1947 WRAY GAZETTE Arley A. Cuney died last Thursday morning of a heart attack and had lived in this community for 60 years, winning a high place in the esteem of its citizens, by his high standards of citizenship, his good natural friendliness and his interest in community affairs. After services at the Christian Church Saturday afternoon the body was laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery. Arley Augustus Cuney, son of Peter F. and Estella V. Cuney, was born September 24, 1882 at Dorchester, Nebraska, and departed this life February 20, 1947 at his home in Wray, Colorado at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 28 days. When a boy of four years, he moved with his parents to a homestead six miles southeast of Wray, where he grew to manhood. On January 28, 1906 he was married to Edith V. Corrin. To this union six children were born, two of whom, Thelma Louisa and Berna Muree, preceded him in death. When a young man he became a member of the Wray Christian Church to which faith he remained loyal to the end. To sorrow for his passing, remain his wife Edith; three sons, John, Orril and Ben, all of Wray and one daughter, Vera Haas of Denver, together with respective wives and husband. There are also two brothers, Roy and Ross, and one sister, Mary Drummond, all of this city. About three years ago he and his wife took up their abode in Wray where, tho forced to retire from farm work, he still maintained an active interest in the work of the Farmers Union and was serving as president of the Local Board of Directors of the Cooperative Elevators Company at the time of his demise. Thus is consummated the life of another of Yuma County's pioneers. His cheerful disposition and good-natured banter will be sadly missed and long remembered by a host of friends.
