A Private Burial will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Charles Curry American Legion Post #49 of Clear Lake. Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements (bio credit). Arlie Harvey Asmussen was born on January 29, 1924 to Fred and Augusta (Bublitz) Asmussen in Revillo, SD. He was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Altamont, SD. Arlie received his education at rural schools in the Strandburg, Revillo and Tunerville, SD area. Following his education, he worked on the farm before enlisting in the United States Navy in December of 1941. He served his country during WWII aboard the USS OWL 137 and USS Comstock LSD 19 where he took part in the Normandy Invasion, D-Day June 6, 1944. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. Arlie was united in marriage to Ferne Nicola on June 1, 1946 in Clear Lake, SD and to this union, twins were born, Donald and DeAnna. He took AGI Course in Auto Mechanics at Gary, SD and farmed from 1947 to 1974 in the Clear Lake and Revillo, SD area. Ferne passed away on August 26, 1964. Arlie married Oneith Schrank on November 21, 1965. While farming Arlie also did custom painting and carpenter work building many new homes. He also had an insulating business and worked for the ASCS office for many years as a field reporter. Oneith passed away on April 9, 2015. Arlie remained in Clear Lake and later entered the Deuel County Good Samaritan Society. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, SD where he served as chairman. Arlie was also a member of Deuel County ASCS County Committee. Arlie enjoyed fishing and gardening. Arlie is survived by his daughter, DeAnna (Jack) Eide, several grandchildren; great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ferne, second wife Oneith, son Donald and five brothers and three sisters. Memorials are preferred to Deuel County Community Foundation
